Awards and Shows

August Holland and Governor EdgarAt the age of fifteen, August  Holland's first published work appeared in Popular Science Magazine. To date over one hundred of his paintings have been reproduced by Chicago and New York publishers. Presently, most of his recent work consisted of maritime art. He was a member of ASMA (American Society of Maritime Artists). Occasionally he enjoyed painting landscape and wildlife subjects. Below is a listing of his major shows and awards.


1987 Top ten National Duck stamp competition.
1988-1989 Arts for the Parks national competition Awards of Excellence.
1992 Chicago Tribune feature article-Tempo section.

One-man show-Rahr West Museum, Manitowoc,WI.

1993 Sea Classics Magazine-distributed worldwide-began running stories written by Holland featuring his paintings.  To date six have been published.

Artist of the Year Ozaukee Ducks Unlimited-Mequon, WI.

Three-man show at the Studio of Long Grove participating with Charles Mundy and Charles Vickery.

1994 One-man show at Kavanaugh Gallery, West Des Moines, Iowa.

1995 Artists of America Show in Denver, CO.

Commission from United States Commemorative Fine Arts Gallery.

1996 Cover of Yachting Chicago.

Article in SEA CLASSICS magazine about USS CONSTITUTION May issue.

Inducted into Illinois Hall of Fame for Seniors on August 11th for artistic accomplishments.

One-man show at Kavanaugh Galleries in West Des Moines, Iowa November 7th-9th.
